About Chalet La Croix Meridionale ...
This secluded 4 star chalet just minutes from the excellent ski slopes of the Manigod/La Clusaz region offers stunning views over the Thones valley and Aravis mountains, but is just five minutes by car from Manigod village, where you can pick up fresh bread from the boulangerie or enjoy an excellent meal at Val Sulens restaurant.
The spacious south-facing ski chalet has a wrap-around veranda on three sides, so there is always a sunny spot to relax over a glass of wine, read a book, or catch up with friends. Wifi, a flat-screen TV and plenty of books help to make the chalet the perfect place to relax after an energetic day in the mountains.
A sauna and jacuzzi complete the package, to ensure you get the stress-free holiday you deserve.
The property ...
You’ll love coming home to the beautiful Chalet La Croix Meridionale after a day on the slopes. With five bedrooms, five bathrooms and generous living space, this contemporary chalet comfortably accommodates 10 people.
Wind down on the leather sofas in front of the suspended fireplace in the beautiful open-plan living area, while the kids chill out in the second lounge or in the TV room upstairs. The large dining area means you can all get together to eat, and a granite breakfast bar links the well-equipped kitchen to the lounge, so the cook doesn’t miss out on the conversation.
Three of the bedrooms (one double and two twin) are the lower ground floor, and two of them are en suite. The laundry room and sauna are on this floor too. There are two more double bedrooms (one en suite) as well as a large bathroom, separate toilet and a TV/games room on the top floor. Both of these bedrooms open on to the upper balcony, which is a great place to start your day with a coffee!
At the end of a busy day, relax with a drink on the veranda, which makes the most of the stunning mountain views, or soothe aching legs in the sauna and jacuzzi.
About the area ...
You’ve got the whole of the La Clusaz/Le Grand Bornand ski area at your disposal when you stay at Chalet La Croix Meridionale.
Equipment can be hired in Manigod, and there is an ESF ski school base at the nearby Croix Fry sector of the La Clusaz pistes (altitude 1500m), where parents can enjoy lunch or a drink while youngsters build confidence on the nursery slopes. Floodlights mean you can ski until 1am in La Clusaz on certain dates, and the weekly torchlit descent is an experience you’ll not forget.
Cross-country skiers will find plenty of trails to choose from on the nearby Beauregard plateau (a world cup cross country location), and non-skiers are not forgotten, with a heated indoor/outdoor swimming pool, ice skating rink and cinema, as well as sledging, snow-shoe walking, dog-sledding and sleigh rides.
There is plenty to do in the summer months, too, with no shortage of walks right from the door of Chalet La Croix Meridional - take a picnic or eat al fresco at one of the mountain restaurants. The ski lifts will take walkers or cyclists and their bikes up the mountains, so they can come down at their own pace, and adrenalin junkies can try paragliding, canyoning, climbing, via ferrata or white-water rafting within a few miles of Manigod.
There’s a great swimming pool and fitness centre at La Clusaz, and lots to discover in the medieval town of Annecy, where lovers of water sports will find plenty to occupy them on the cleanest lake in Europe. Back at the chalet, you’ll want to catch the sunset from the fabulous terrace.

The OVO Network Review
Chalet La Croix Méridionale is a 5 bedroom 5 bathroom chalet for 10, spread over 3 floors and across 250m2.
Situated in Combource at the end of the beautiful Manigod valley, Chalet La Croix Méridionale is perfect for those wanting to recharge their batteries while relaxing in a comfortable, spacious chalet with stunning views.
With an exterior hot tub, a sauna, two lounges, and a separate TV lounge, there are plenty of great facilities, and lots of space throughout for all to enjoy.
Any chefs in the group will enjoy working in the well-equipped open plan kitchen. The shaded outdoor terrace, accessible from the chalet or the balcony, is ideal for alfresco dining in warmer weather, for taking coffee while watching the snow fall, breathing in the fresh air after a spectacular summer storm, or appreciating the sunsets.
The Alps are a weather watcher's paradise all year round!
Four of the five spacious bedrooms have en suite shower rooms; the fifth is also a double room. If you prefer taking a bath, there is a luxurious roll top bath in the fifth bathroom.
On a practical note each floor has an independent wc.
Out of doors there are walks from the door, open views and very few neighbours.
Some may see the splendid isolation as a drawback - shops, restaurants, and the slopes are a drive away. Others will enjoy the privilege of being able to enjoy the Alpine countryside at its best.
The roads are cleared during the winter by the local commune, but cars must be appropriately equipped for winter weather conditions.
Guests with toddlers might prefer to wait until the little ones are asleep before using the contemporary suspended fireplace. Very young children may need extra supervision on the open tread stairs.

“ We feel truly privileged to be the owners of La Croix Meridionale.
When the opportunity arose for us to purchase land upon which we could build a chalet to our specification we were delighted. While we wanted a chalet which from the outside looked like a traditional chalet, we were very keen indeed that it was modern, open and captured as much as was possible of the fantastic views.
It was important to us that on the main floor of the chalet, the living area was open plan and had a wrap around veranda in order to maximise the natural light and the views of the valley and mountains. The chalet faces south and is bathed in light all day.
The galley kitchen and breakfast bench was designed to enable those doing the cooking to socialise as well. We decided to purchase leather sofas and chairs and place them in two specific areas so those that wanted to chat could while those who wanted to curl up with a book and a drink by the suspended fireplace were also able to do so on the main floor.
The undercover balcony on the main floor faces west so that in the summer, we are able to be under cover during the heat of the day while lunching yet have the evening sun shining in as guests either have drinks or dinner outside as the sun sets behind Tournette, the mountain that separates the valley from the Annecy lake. As the chalet was designed to be a comfortable family home we were keen that each of the bedrooms was of good size.
Upstairs we have two double bedrooms.
One has a shower room and the other has use of a large bathroom.
The oversized bath is placed under the skylight so you can soak away the day while watching the stars. Both share a small balcony with great views.
A perfect parents' retreat ! Also upstairs is the games room with a TV connected to a DVD player with lots of films. We spend many a happy family evening after dinner spread out on the leather sofa and bean bags watching comedies. On the lower level we have 3 bedrooms.
The largest double bedroom in the chalet and the room with two single beds both have their own shower rooms.
The 5th bedroom has twin beds and the occupants are able to use the shower in the jacuzzi room along the corridor. The jacuzzi can hold 5 people in comfortable and is a great way of winding down after a day of skiing or walking.
Our personal preference is to use the sauna to soothe tired legs. The main entry to the chalet is into an entrance hall where we have a placed a bench so you can remove outdoor shoes and boots.
We have a boot warmer here so that wet ski boots and gloves can be dried (and then warmed up again the following morning before heading off to the slopes).
The chalet was finished in 2006 and we have been so happy with it ever since. We love it in all seasons and are only saddened by the fact that with busy professional lives, we are not able to be there nearly as much as we would like.
We have skiied at La Clusaz for 10 years. As a family we have had some truly memorable days traversing the 5 mountains that make up the La Clusaz ski area.
Starting from La Croix Fry, the closest station to the chalet, we usually ski a complete loop taking in all the ski areas including the Aiguille and Le Balme. Over the years alot of improvements have occurred with high speed chairs and telecabines being introduced throughout the area.
We also regularly head over to Le Grand Bornand which has some wide open pistes, perfect for younger children, as well as some large mogul runs. We always hire whatever equipment we need from the friendly staff at Intersport at Croix Fry.
In the summer there are a lot of fantastic walks from the chalet. Our favourite is the walk up Mt Charvin to the lake just beneath the summit. We always take a picnic.
From just above the lake you have a fantastic view across the Megeve valley to the Mt Blanc range - truly stunning on a clear day.
Another favourite walk from the chalet is up through the trees above to either Croix Fry or Merdassier for a well deserved lunch at one of the restaurants.
Our kids, now teenagers, still love the lake at Annecy in the summer. We usually hire a pedalo and head out to the middle of the lake to swim in the pure and amazingly warm water.
Annecy itself is wonderful and we inevitably end up coming back home to the chalet with fantastic cakes and tarts. While it is a family ritual to eat at least once at the Hotel du Commerce in Thones on every visit, and always have the gastronomique menu too, we prefer to spend most nights at the chalet enjoying the views.
We have hung in the chalet a large number of paintings we have bought while travelling the world including paintings from Cuba and Bali. A number of the paintings in the chalet are by Australian Aborigines, purchased in Australia while visiting relatives.
This is the reason why we decided to name the chalet La Croix Meridionale, the Southern Cross, after the constellation of stars seen only in the southern hemisphere and on the Australian flag. We do hope you love our Manigod home as much as we do. ”
